In all their work, Victor and Vérène strive to have fun and experiment. “I would say [our visual language is] rich and colorful and full of humor, ”emphasizes Victor. Often the word “pop” is associated with what they do, even if they’re not a big fan of the term, says Vérène. Instead of chasing a specific aesthetic, the duo just make sure they never take themselves too seriously – “not that good design matters, but we don’t save lives either,” remarks Vérène.
This penchant for color and silliness is certainly reflected in the artistic direction of Creatures 2022. Between 2D illustration, 3D work, painting… The calendar is multifaceted in its style while retaining a certain frivolous personality, a direct result of the duo’s taste. “The Creatures The calendar concerns animal representation in all forms and all possible forms, ”describes Vèréne. “This first edition shows a kind of naive and joyful vision of the animal world, which corresponds quite well to our state of mind when we started this project. As to how they found the contributors – including Claudia Maté, Uou_Cute and Laurent Allard – Victor explains that some are friends and others are artists that they have been following for quite some time on Instagram, “so we were really excited when they agreed to contribute. “With the first iteration being such a success, the duo are already looking for artists to include in the 2023 edition.
All profits from the calendar will be donated to the Animal Assistance Foundation and the project also includes two T-shirts and an exhibition. You can pick up your copy of the calendar or one of the T-shirts here.
