Alberta Culture Day is celebrated throughout the month of September and was created to celebrate the unique arts and culture that make up our beautiful and diverse Albertan heritage, with community events across the province .

Being a celebration site is a real honor for HRPAF, as they have been participating in Alberta Culture Days for several years and working hard to make The Venue a fantastic place to celebrate Alberta Culture Days. Alberta.

HRPAF President Dinah VanDonzel shared some of the events taking place at Venue this month as a celebration.

In collaboration with Art and Soul Gallery, we are organizing two events at The Venue. Ziggy Ryerson in concert September 2, doors 6:30 p.m. and art demo by Annie Froese September 22 at 6:30 p.m.

Calgary’s Seniors Acting Lab will present a theatrical reading of “A Pernicious Arrangement” on September 3 at 2 p.m. The group and the play want to create original theater that reflects what is happening in our community of seniors, engaging us to think about and discuss the issues that seniors and their families should be talking about.

Cathy Bennington will offer a Street Photography Walk on September 8 at 4 p.m. Come and learn how to take street photos as you stroll through the High River Farmers Market. Please RSVP to [email protected]

We are honored that the Reconciliation Citizen Group is once again hosting a Reconciliation Project on September 10th. There will be a teepee raising at The Venue, a screening of the documentary ‘Braves Wear Braids’ at the Wales Theatre, Aboriginal storytelling, dancing and drumming.

A Night in Mexico returns September 16 at 5:30 p.m. El Papalote, in collaboration with Mexi-Mex, offers a very special traditional Mexican food and drink menu to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day. Performances will include Mictlan Arte Investigación and Mariachi Internacional Sol Azteca. Space will be limited, please RSVP to [email protected] or (604) 319-7536

On September 17, the Foothills Art Collective will host a calligraphy workshop at The Venue in the afternoon.

QT Pie Returns Drag Show returns September 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by contacting QT Pie at [email protected]

IRERI will be on The Venue stage again on September 24 at 7 p.m. with their magnificent dancers! Come and enjoy a real spectacle of vibrant colors, talented dancers and Mexican culture!

And finally, if you’re out for the Car Show on September 25, stop by The Venue for exceptional youth jazz with Highwood High School’s No-Name Jazz Fusion Band. This student-led group of musicians will amaze you.
