Jamie Redknapp thinks Antonio Conte isn’t signing new Tottenham Hotspur deal but is ‘strange’
Former Tottenham Hotspur ace Jamie Redknapp finds it “strange” that Antonio Conte has yet to sign a contract extension with the club. The ex-midfielder believes the Italian should have already committed his future to North London.
Conte has been one of the best managers in football over the years. However, the former Juventus coach is known for his short spells in club dugouts.
Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Express), Redknapp, who is best known for his time as a Liverpool player, is worried about the uncertainty surrounding Conte’s future at the club.
“Normally with managers, someone of his ilk, would have signed already. It’s a strange situation with the World Cup, the season is going to end very quickly.
The Spurs manager’s last long reign at the helm of a club was in Italy with the Bianconeri. And the 53-year-old has only spent three seasons with the Old Lady.
He was then appointed coach of the Italian national team. And after two years, Conte left the position of head coach of Gli Azzurri.
The Italian returned to club football with Chelsea in the Premier League and won the English top flight in his first season at Stamford Bridge. However, the 53-year-old’s second campaign in charge of the Blues was a disappointing one and he was sacked.
Conte then took charge of an Inter Milan side that had fallen out of favor in recent years. However, the Italian was able to take them to their first Scudetto in 11 years. But again, he left after two seasons with the Nerazzurri.
Tottenham have obviously invested heavily in the gaffer since his appointment. Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevksi were signed in January 2022. And the recent transfer window has also seen several quality entries.
